The Congress for Humanitarian & Economic Progress (CHEP) delivers strategic consulting, specialized project services, and impactful campaigns designed to address the root causes of social, economic, environmental, and health inequities. CHEP is committed to building systems that expand access to vital resources, empowering communities to thrive.
Founded in 2016, the Congress for Humanitarian & Economic Progress (CHEP) was established to convene subject matter experts across disciplines to identify and address the root causes of systemic inequities. CHEP develops targeted action plans, builds systems to monitor progress, and creates structures that advance equity and opportunity in communities.
CHEP’s founding is deeply inspired by the legacy of former Maryland Senator Shirley Nathan-Pulliam, a trailblazing nurse, legislator, and lifelong advocate for health equity and social justice. Senator Nathan-Pulliam founded the Congress for Health and Economic Disparities within the Maryland General Assembly’s Health and Government Operations Committee, championing landmark initiatives to reduce health disparities, expand access to care, and promote social and economic wellbeing Her unwavering commitment to public service and her pioneering spirit continue to guide CHEP’s mission and values.
As a catalyst for change, CHEP also provides philanthropic support for infrastructure-based projects that address critical social needs and is dedicated to nurturing a pipeline of changemakers committed to social justice philanthropy.
